Skylit West Coast Craftsman Kitchen Renovation

Client Challenge:

A soaring, timber-framed ceiling filled the room with daylight, but the kitchen still felt dated and short on purposeful storage. Small appliances drifted across the counters, under-cabinet lighting was inconsistent, and there wasn’t a defined serving/coffee zone to keep the main prep run clear.

The Vision:

Respect the architecture and brighten the workspace with timeless materials. Priorities included continuous task lighting, durable white worktops, a full-height storage wall with integrated refrigeration, a professional range, and a dedicated hutch for coffee and entertaining—warm, classic, and easy to maintain.

Our Solution:

  • Cabinetry: Custom, medium-toned shaker doors with furniture-style crown unify the room. A tall storage wall integrates a French-door refrigerator and built-in microwave; a glass-front hutch with flanking display cubbies becomes the buffet/coffee station.

  • Surfaces: Seamless white quartz countertops throughout for durability and easy cleaning.

  • Backsplash: Elongated glossy white subway tile with light grout runs the full perimeter, reflecting light and visually lengthening the room.

  • Layout: A U-shaped perimeter under the clerestory windows creates a long, uninterrupted prep zone at the sink/dishwasher run, with the pro range and hood opposite for efficient cooking flow.

  • Storage: Deep drawer bases replace hard-to-reach lowers; tall pantry cabinets capture vertical capacity; the hutch base adds concealed storage so serving pieces and small appliances stay off the main counters.

  • Appliances & Lighting: Pro-style gas range with stainless hood, French-door refrigerator, integrated dishwasher, and built-in microwave. Continuous LED under-cabinet strips wash the tile; dimmable recessed cans supplement abundant skylight.

  • Finishes: Large-format soft-grey porcelain floor tile for traction and easy care; warm brushed-brass pulls complement the wood tone; stainless accents echo the appliance suite; continuous wood beams and clerestory trim are preserved as architectural features.

The Result:

Bright, warm, and highly organized. Counters stay clear thanks to deep drawers and the pantry wall, the hutch functions as an elegant serving zone, and even after sunset the continuous LEDs make prep feel like daylight—while the vaulted skylight and timber structure remain the star.
