Kitchen, Mid-Century Modern

Downtown Walnut + White Condo Kitchen Renovation

Downtown Walnut + White Condo Kitchen Renovation

Client Challenge:

This high-rise condo had great light and views, but the original U-shaped kitchen felt tight and visually heavy. Prep space was fragmented, the microwave lived on the counter, and finishes didn’t match the owners’ preference for a clean, modern look with a bit of warmth.

The Vision:

Create a bright, clutter-free kitchen that blends crisp white surfaces with warm walnut. Goals included a long waterfall island with seating, an easy-clean backsplash, better drawer-based storage, and coordinated custom pieces for the adjacent living/office areas.

Our Solution:

Final Draft re-planned the compact U to read as one continuous work zone with a furniture-like island that opens to the living room.

  • Cabinetry: Matte white slab uppers pair with grain-matched walnut base cabinets and drawer stacks; slim stainless pulls keep the lines crisp. A matching walnut/white storage wall with open bookcase niche organizes the office, and a walnut credenza ties the palette into the living area.

  • Surfaces: Durable white quartz on all counters plus a mitered waterfall island end; glossy white grid-tile backsplash adds subtle texture while keeping reflections bright.

  • Island: Waterfall-edge quartz island with undermount sink, generous prep surface, built-in microwave, and seating for two—anchoring the open plan.

  • Storage: Deep drawer bases replace fussy lowers; full-height pantry and integrated tray/utensil drawers increase capacity; additional walnut sideboard provides concealed dining-room storage.

  • Appliances & Lighting: Pro-style stainless range with canopy hood, counter-depth fridge, quiet dishwasher; layered lighting with recessed ceiling cans and under-cabinet LED task strips for even illumination.

  • Finishes: Wide-plank light oak floors, satin-white cabinetry, natural walnut veneer, and minimalist square-set tile deliver a calm, modern envelope that still feels warm.

The Result:

The kitchen now feels open, organized, and tailored to condo living. Continuous counters speed weeknight cooking, the built-in microwave clears the worktops, and the island doubles as a social hub. Matching walnut millwork extends the design language beyond the kitchen for a cohesive, modern home.
