West Coast Warm Modern Kitchen Renovation

West Coast Warm Modern Kitchen Renovation

Client Challenge:

This open-plan home had great light and views, but the kitchen felt visually busy and short on organized storage. The old mix of upper cabinets and short counters broke up the room, there wasn’t a true landing zone for prep or serving, and small appliances plus knives lived on the worktops—crowding the cooktop run.

The Vision:

Design a calm, gallery-like kitchen that blends everyday function with display. Goals included a long, uninterrupted prep run, a generous island for cooking and casual dining, concealed refrigeration, and curated open niches—finished in a timeless combination of rift-oak wood, matte charcoal cabinetry, and soft white worktops.

Our Solution:

Final Draft re-planned the galley to read as two clean, parallel lines with a sculptural island at center.

  • Cabinetry: Rift-cut white oak towers and floating niches frame matte charcoal flat-panel bases with integrated finger pulls. Panel-ready refrigeration hides behind tall oak doors with slim black bar handles to keep the elevation seamless.

  • Surfaces: Soft white quartz counters with thin, modern edges run the full length of both sides and continue into the niches for a quiet, gallery backdrop.

  • Island: A long, furniture-like island in deep charcoal provides dual-basin undermount sink, a spring-spout faucet, seating for two, and discreet end-panel power for small appliances.

  • Storage: Deep drawer bases replace fussy lowers; a custom pull-out by the cooktop organizes knives, boards, and utensils; tall pantry cabinets flank the wall oven for bulk goods and small appliances.

  • Appliances & Lighting: Induction cooktop with integrated ventilation, wall oven, panelled fridge/freezer, and layered lighting—LED shelf lights, under-cabinet task strips, and minimalist linear pendants—deliver bright, even illumination.

  • Finishes: A continuous wood plank ceiling ties into rift-oak millwork, while light herringbone hardwood floors and a black slat room divider connect kitchen to living areas and emphasize length.

The Result:

The kitchen now feels calm, organized, and artful. Continuous counters and deep drawers speed prep, the concealed fridge keeps sightlines clean, and the long island doubles as a social hub. Lit display niches showcase ceramics and greenery without stealing workspace, delivering a warm modern room that’s equally ready for weeknight cooking and weekend entertaining.
