Client Challenge:
The clients loved their character home but the kitchen felt tired and short on seating and storage. Lighting was uneven, prep space was limited, and the room didn’t reflect the home’s charm.
The Vision:
Honor the home’s period details while updating function. They pictured a bright, durable kitchen with classic bones—a checkerboard floor, glass-front uppers, and a cozy built-in banquette—paired with modern surfaces and efficient workflow.
Our Solution:
Final Draft redesigned the space to keep the character and add everyday performance. Warm stained Shaker cabinetry anchors the room, while painted glass-front uppers keep sightlines light. A fireclay apron sink, quartz countertops, and an elongated ceramic backsplash handle daily use with ease. We introduced a furniture-style island with a prep sink for clean traffic flow, set under industrial pendants. Exposed wood beams with black steel brackets and a riveted matte-black range hood add tailored craft. The black-and-white checkerboard floor, laid on the diagonal, brings classic bistro energy. A tufted blue corner banquette provides comfortable seating and hidden drawer storage. A skylight and layered task lighting brighten the space throughout the day.
The Result:
A kitchen that feels both new and familiar—warm, organized, and built for cooking and gathering. The layout flows, the materials are easy to live with, and the room now draws compliments for its timeless floor, statement hood, and custom banquette.
